Hvad er Gouache?

Gouache, også kaldet temperafarve minder på mange måder om akvarel, men med den primære forskel, at gouache er heldækkende i modsætning til akvarel, som er transparent. Pigmenterne er større end i akvarel.  Gouache tørrer hurtigt og helt mat op - og ligesom med akvarel, kan indtørret farve opløses igen med vand.

Ordet "gouache" er overtaget fra fransk og udtales "gua'sj" eller "goa'sj." Fransk har modtaget ordet fra italiensk "guazzo", som betyder "vandpyt", "vand" eller "lavering."

Før akrylmalingen var gouache det populære alternativ til olie. Siden blev gouache en mere grafisk artikel - f.eks. til farvelægning af illustrationer, plakater og tegneserier såvel som i håndtegnet animation, hvor gouache bruges til at farvelægge de lag et stillbillede består af.

What is Gouache?

          Gouache, is also called tempera. It is in many ways similar to watercolor, but with the primary difference that gouache is a solid colour as opposed to watercolor, which is transparent. The pigments are larger than in watercolor. Gouache dries quickly in a matt tone - and like watercolor, dense areas can be dissolved again with water.

 The word "gouache" is French and pronounced "gua'sj" or "goa'sj." Previously the word came from Italian: "guazzo" which means "waterpour", "water" or "ink and wash painting"

Before acrylic painting, gouache was a popular alternative to oil painting. Since then gouache became mainly used in graphic art - for example in the coloring of illustrations, posters and cartoons. In hand drawn animation films gouache is used to colour the layers of every single  picture.
